Beach Cleanup and awareness programme at Hikka Tranz by Cinnamon

Plasticcycle together with Hikka Tranz by Cinnamon held a beach cleanup along the Hikkaduwa coastline on the 17th of November 2022 from Hikkaduwa Hotel to Sapphire Seas Hotel, a 4Km distance. This was
supported by participation beyond expectation with over 250 participants consisting of 80 Forces & Police, 110 from the hoteliers, and over 60 from stakeholders and well-wishers (National Cleaner Production Center, Marine Environmental Protection Authority).

The beach cleaning was done according to best practices with the volunteers being briefed on health and safety, appropriate personal protective equipment utilized, and the waste segregated and disposed
responsibly, while monitoring and recording the results.

The beach cleaning results recorded 92 kg of plastic waste, 180 kg of glass waste, 250 kg of mixed waste, and 12,000 kg (12 tons) of Landfill. The Hikkaduwa Urban v& Cleantech assisted in the removal of the waste appropriately.
